Industry update forums

The 1st Industry Update, held Thursday 5 May 2005 , proved very successful with over 50 industry representatives attending. The Acting Assistant Director-General of the Queensland Government Chief Information Office, John Spinaze, opened the forum by welcoming those in attendance and giving a background on the Smart Directions Statement and the new Queensland Government ICT Governance Framework.

Progress report on the implementation of action items

Tracey Edwards, ICT Infrastructure, Queensland Government Chief Information Office and Tony Callaghan, Information Industries Bureau gave those in attendance a progress report on the implementation of Action Items in the Smart Directions Statement. They outlined the five major focus areas of 2005 which are:

Update of GITC v5

An update on the GITC v5 Framework was presented by Col Hegarty, Program Manager, ICT Infrastructure, Queensland Government Chief Information Office. Col outlined the key GITC v5 framework improvements including the new structure, contractual, training and awareness, and online information access.

Since March 2005 approximately 510 suppliers have been invited to transition to GITC v5 Framework. It is anticipated that approximately 1700 suppliers will transition to GITC v5 over the next 10 months.

In April and May ‘introduction’ training and information sessions were conducted for both Government and the ICT industry on GITC v5. These sessions have been very successful with approximately 150 industry representatives attending these sessions.

Both Government and ICT Industry Associations are currently being invited to nominate a representative to participate on various Working Parties in relation to reviewing ICT procurement processes. Some of the areas which these Working Parties will focus on developing are:

It is expected that Industry Updates will be held quarterly to inform on progress and focus on specific Action Items in the Smart Directions Statement that have been identified as high interest to industry.
