Queensland Household Survey - Computer and Internet usage
The seventh annual survey of computer and internet usage by Queensland households
was conducted by the Office of Economic and Statistical Research (OESR) in
May 2007. The state-wide survey of 3,600 households provides valuable information
on the uptake and use of computers, the internet and broadband by Queenslanders.
Highlights from the May 2007 survey include:
- access to a computer at home has risen slightly to an estimated 85% of
the Queensland adult population (81% in 2006)
- 77% of Queenslanders now have access to the internet at home (72% in 2006)
- an estimated 44% of over 65s have access to the internet or email at home
(38% in 2006)
- of those with an internet connection, 34% paid less than $30 per month
for their service (47% in 2006)
- broadband now accounts for 73% of household internet connections in Queensland
(57% in 2006)
- ADSL broadband has continued to grow strongly and now comprises 47% of
all internet connections (36% in 2006)
- 46% of adults consider themselves as having either good or very good computer
skills, while approximately half of Queensland adults (49%) consider themselves
to have either good or very good internet skills.
