The Queensland Government provides a wide range of services to its clients. When providing many of these services, it’s important that clients are identified: authentication is the process of assuring and verifying the correctness of an identity.
It is essential that Government agencies provide a level of authentication assurance that is appropriate for the service being delivered. This is necessary for the proper function of the service, and to ensure that the agency and their clients are protected from improper or fraudulent use of a service. Different types of services require different levels of authentication assurance. For example, services involving sensitive information or financial transactions would require a higher level of assurance about the identity of a client than services which do not.
