Advanced search
The advanced search function is available on search results pages, and as part of the Info search tool. Advanced search provides various search options/filters. You can search by:
- any of the words entered, e.g. Government Enterprise Architecture will search for any or all of the words Government, Enterprise and Architecture
- all of the words entered, e.g. Government Enterprise Architecture will return results featuring all three words in any order
- the exact phrase entered, e.g. Government Enterprise Architecture will return only the exact words in the order you typed them
- none of the words entered. This means you can exclude words from your search. If you enter ‘strategy’ here, your results will show everything on the website except any content that includes the word strategy.
It also gives you the option to search content by:
- topic (select from the dropdown)
- sub-topic (select from the dropdown)
- document type (select from the dropdown)
- content format (select from the dropdown)

Get there fast
The QGCIO’s website offers several additional search methods to make information discovery as easy and as quick as possible. These are:
Info search tool
Access this information discovery tool by clicking the Info search tool icon 
in the right-hand column. GovNet users will see the Info search tool on the QGCIO homepage. The Info search tool lets you browse for content by:
- topic – information on the site including document downloads arranged by topic and subjects within each topic
- document type – including standard, policy, methodology
- alphabetical order – click on a letter grouping (A–C, D–F etc)
- using the site’s advanced search function.
Click on the blue tabs to switch between these different options.

Quick links
The links in the blue panel in the right-hand column offer direct links to essential and popular pages and sections on our site.
Also consider
When you perform a search you may be presented with additional links to information relevant to your search in the right-hand column. These will be listed under the heading Also consider.

Search tips and hints
- Make sure all words are spelt correctly.
- Don't include words like 'and' or 'the' in your searches.
- Don't write questions.
- Too many keywords can constrain your search. Use fewer keywords to find more results.
- Try different keywords.
- Try more general keywords.
- If you want to search across all site content, including PDF documents, MS Word documents and HTML pages, you should conduct an advanced search.
