Definitions

Formerly called ‘GEA White Papers’, GEA Definitions Papers provide background on a topic and provide a standard meaning for terms and concepts to ensure consistent usage and common understanding across the Queensland Government.

Definition papers issued by the Queensland Government Chief Information Office support concepts addressed by or relevant to the GEA.  They may be issued to provide clarity for an associated position paper or they may stand on their own.

Queensland Government Chief Information Office develops definition papers using the formal GEA consultation process, which includes referral to the GEA Working Group. Finalised papers include the results of evaluated feedback received from agencies.

Under the current GEA governance arrangements white papers do not require endorsement of the Strategic Information & ICT Council Executive as they do not place any compliance requirement on agencies.

Use of the term "White Paper"

The use of the term GEA White paper (while an appropriate term in the ICT industry) has been discontinued as it conflicts with a similar term used to describe a document that defines the policy of the Government of the day.
