State Government Copyright Agreements
The Queensland Government is entitled, under statutory licence, to use copyright materials for the services of the State. Payment for this use is determined by whole-of-Government arrangements with the relevant collecting societies, namely:
- the Copyright Agency Ltd (CAL) – for the reproduction of print materials; and
- Screenrights (the Audio-Visual Copyright Society Ltd) – for the copying of television and radio broadcasts.
The Queensland Government also has a voluntary licence agreement with the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) for the performance of musical works.
A new agreement covering both photocopying and digital use of print copyright works is currently being negotiated with CAL, while work on the first remuneration agreement with Screenrights is expected to begin later this year, following consideration of Screenrights States and Territories Survey Analysis, the report of the 2005-2007 survey of broadcast copying in state and territory governments, which was released by IP Research and Analysis Pty Ltd in December 2007.
More detailed information for Queensland Government employees is available from the Queensland Government Chief Information Office GovNet site (Queensland Government only).
