Longhaus awarded rights to government technology information

Brisbane-based IT research firm Longhaus has secured the commercialisation rights to selected Queensland Government technology information, the Minister for Public Works and Information and Communication Technology, Robert Schwarten announced on Friday 22 May.

In a first for Australia, the Queensland Government will inform industry of its current and potential technology spending through a range of information products offered by Longhaus.

Minister Schwarten said the aim of the arrangement was to provide an endorsed ICT profile so that local and international ICT vendors could better plan for and match their product offerings to the government.
'Longhaus provided a comprehensive, creative and competitive approach in response to the government's offer,' Mr Schwarten said.

'This new arrangement exemplifies the state government's move to providing greater transparency of government information in line with the new Right to Information regime.

'We are confident these commercialisation arrangements will create real opportunities for forging better partnerships between industry and the state government,' Mr Schwarten said.

Through the five-year partnership, the Longhaus Baseline will provide insights into the overall spending across the Queensland Government, including key aspects of the government's business application and technology assets.

The Longhaus Baseline will also provide strategic analysis and market forecasts based on information from individual ICT assets collected from Queensland Government departments.

The Managing Director of Longhaus, Peter Carr, said the Longhaus Baseline represented Australia's most comprehensive commercially available longitudinal ICT research on any public sector enterprise.

'Our research indicates that ICT vendors want to know about government initiatives, forward procurement plans, products used, ICT budgets and spending,' Mr Carr said.

'We look forward to working closely with the Queensland Government over the next five years.'

The Longhaus Baseline suite of targeted analysis includes reports, briefings and advisory services.
