New QGEA 2.0 framework approved

The Queensland Government Enterprise Architecture Framework 2.0 (known as QGEA 2.0) was launched by Queensland Government Chief Information Officer and Director-General of the Department of Public Works, Mal Grierson on April 21.

The QGEA 2.0 is the collection of ICT policies and associated documents that guides agency ICT initiatives and investments to improve the compatibility and cost-effectiveness of ICT across the government.

For the first time, this new version brings together ICT strategy, ICT policy, Information Standards and enterprise architecture from across the Queensland Government.

It is designed for use at a whole-of-Government level and at an agency level. This new version has been specifically formulated to be easier for agencies to understand, use and contribute to.

QGCIO Acting Executive Director Alan Chapman said the approved framework would help agencies to make improved decisions around the use and management of ICT in government.

‘Although the QGEA 2.0 documents better practices for agencies to apply at a local level, its major benefit is in helping government act as a single enterprise so ICT investment can be maximised,’ Alan said.

The Queensland Government Chief Information Office coordinates the development and approval processes for QGEA 2.0 policies and related documents and publishes them for agency and industry reference.

It has released the first set of QGEA 2.0 draft policies and documents for consultation.

The second pack of draft QGEA 2.0 documents will be released in May.
