The Queensland Government Chief Information Office has developed standard approaches for managing projects and programs in the Queensland Government.
These methodologies - the Queensland Government Project and Program Management Methodologies and the Queensland Government Benefits Management Framework – have been approved by the Strategic Information and ICT CEO Committee for sector-wide adoption.
Alan Chapman, Executive Director, Queensland Government Chief Information Office said the intention was for all agencies to adopt the methodologies so that a standard approach, language and governance for project and program management was in place across the sector.
'It is a requirement that government employees use the new methodologies to better manage projects and programs. External individuals or companies who are working on projects and programs within agencies will also be required to use these methodologies,' Mr Chapman said.
'Service providers, such as training providers or ICT contractors and organisations, working ‘outside’ of government do not have to use the methodologies or have their own project management approach accredited by the government. However, they will need to meet the reporting and risk management requirements of the agency they are dealing with.
'ICT contractors or project management trainers are encouraged to find out about the methodologies and the new requirements,' Mr Chapman said.
