The telecommunications area develops the strategic direction for internal-to-Government telecommunications and a planned approach to the improvement of telecommunications services across Queensland by:

• actively participating in cross-jurisdictional and national committees and working groups, and in Federal Government broadband initiatives
• lobbying the Commonwealth Government for improved telecommunications access and funding within Queensland and facilitating agencies’ applications for funding
• coordinating telecommunications activities across the Queensland Government
• setting the strategic direction for the State’s telecommunications requirements
• managing the Government’s committed spend, telecommunications panel arrangements and State Government Telephone Network.
