The Department of Public Works and the Department of State Development and Innovation have undertaken a collaborative approach to develop the Queensland Telecommunications Strategic Framework (PDF, 254kb). The Framework addresses the need for a planned approach to the improvement of telecommunications services in Queensland, and this will in turn maximise the benefits for the community and business, and will facilitate service delivery.
The Framework defines goals and actions for the Government, industry and community sectors to develop telecommunications infrastructure and the information and communication services required to realise the Smart State vision.
The Framework seeks to realise wide-ranging benefits for Queenslanders by:
- Setting objectives and outcomes for telecommunications infrastructure in Queensland.
- Identifying the related programs to be pursued at agency and whole-of-Government levels.
- Encouraging the private sector to provide telecommunications infrastructure to support service delivery, develop business opportunities, and enable equitable access for Queensland communities.
- Aligning initiatives by state, local and commonwealth jurisdictions to provide equitable and affordable telecommunications services across Queensland.
The Framework (PDF, 254kb) was endorsed by the Strategic Information and ICT Chief Executives Committee on 11 November 2008.
