This Queensland Government Enterprise Architecture (QGEA) policy specifies technical requirements to ensure that web services are interoperable within the Queensland Government.

Policy statement

The Queensland Government will adopt technical standards to ensure the interoperability of computer systems that connect using web services.

Policy benefits

Upon implementation of this policy, both the Queensland Government as a whole and individual agencies can expect the following benefits and improvements:

  • meet minimum security protection requirements for Queensland Government Web Services[1]
  • reduced total cost of ownership through reuse of web services that are interoperable
  • increased quality and reliability of web services through adherence to a standard
  • more standardisation through consistent approach leading to reduced training and maintenance costs and helping to increase the reliability of services
  • agility through reuse of existing services.


This policy applies to all Queensland Government departments and is to be applied to:

  • where the Queensland Government is the web services provider
  • external integration points
  • cross-agency integration points

It is also recommended for internal integration.

This policy applies to all newly created web services and existing web services when changes are made to the web service.

Out of scope

The following are out of scope:

  • implementation technologies used to create web services
  • external services that are not within Queensland Government control

Policy requirements

Policy requirement 1: Departments must implement the Web services interoperability standard for all in-scope integrations

Adherence to the Web services interoperability standard will ensure that web services created within Queensland Government are interoperable across the government as a whole and for individual agencies.
