Information security (Definition)

Information security activities are concerned with the protection of information from unauthorised use or accidental modification, loss or release. Information security is based on three elements:

  • confidentiality – ensuring that information is only accessible to those with authorised access;
  • integrity – safeguarding the accuracy and completeness of information and processing methods;
  • and availability – ensuring that authorised users have access to information when required.
