Systems testing

The System Testing Graduate plays a vital role with the components of the system development life cycle. Graduate systems testers work with the software development team and other staff (internal and external to the organisation) to ensure the system being developed is meeting business needs and the documented specifications. You will help ensure planned and methodical testing takes place.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • understand system requirements and specifications
  • assist to plan and undertake test activities (including analysing requirements and creating and executing test scripts)
  • assist to identify problems and/or risks and report to development team
  • maintain accurate documentation
  • report on progress of testing with recommended actions.

The ideal candidate will:

  • possess a systematic and thorough approach to problem solving
  • be able to conceptualise and think creatively
  • possess high levels of interpersonal and written communication skills and be customer focused
  • work collaboratively and operate as an effective team member
  • have attention to detail and commit to achieving quality outcomes.

Technical skills and qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • relational database technologies (e.g. Oracle, SQL) and web services (e.g. XML)
  • testing tools/techniques and development tools (e.g. version control software)
  • software development methodologies and life cycles (including quality assurance/testing)
  • software testing life cycles and testing tools.

Your degree may be in:

  • Information technology, information systems or computer science.
