From 4-15 April, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) is set to bring the world’s attention onto Queensland, as events are held on the Gold Coast, and in Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns. The games will highlight all that Queensland has to offer, however it may also expose us to cybersecurity risks that need to be managed.

While major events, such as the Commonwealth Games, can attract malicious cyber activity; fortunately, this risk can be managed through good preparation, strong reporting procedures, and the rollout and testing of security processes and technology prior to the event.

The QGCIO Cybersecurity Unit have spent the past twelve months leading cyber preparation activities with agencies to protect Queensland Government departments and agencies in preparation for potential cyber threats during GC2018 and will provide whole-of-government incident coordination for Queensland Government departments during the games.
